LiveStream 5 Administration Guide

Maintenance

The Maintenance section governs all aspects of keeping the system running smoothly over time including software updates, database maintenance and disaster recovery tools.

When you first navigate to Setup -> Maintenance you will be presented with the Software Updates tab.

Screen

Software Updates

There are two kinds of software updates are installable from this screen:

  1. Operating system packages which are sourced directly from the vendor (CentOS). These packages have no affect on LiveStream 5 functionality, they will simply maintain the stability of the built-in operating system programs.
  2. LiveStream 5 packages sourced from Getbusi. These updates will include everything from brand new features to bug fixes for LiveStream.

Release notes for major LiveStream updates are available from Getbusi's Knowledge Base.

You have the choice of installing all available updates either over-night or now. If there are many updates available it may take up to 30 minutes to install them, so please exercise patience. The system will display a message once the updates are successfully installed.

Note: Installing LiveStream package updates may interrupt web browsing for around 1 – 2 minutes.

Backup

Database backups are maintained as a disaster recovery mechanism. Each backup archive contains two backup files—one for the configuration (small) and one for the reporting data (large). You should ensure that backup files are regularly downloaded from this page and stored in a safe place in case of hardware failure.

Screen

Customise the Backup Schedule

Out of the box, LiveStream will generate a fresh database backup every Sunday night, at midnight. You may, however, customise this schedule based on your organisation's backup policies.

  1. Check the customise backup schedule box.
  2. Choose an interval using the backup every fields.
  3. Choose a starting date to run the first scheduled backup.
  4. Choose how many backups to keep.
  5. Click save and apply.

You may also manually create a new backup manually.

Downloading Backups

Every backup archive's filename is timestamped. To download it to your computer just click on the linked filename.

Deleting Backups

In the event of very high disk usage a quick way to clear some space is to delete older database backups. To do so simply click the trashcan icon.

ProTip: Your database backups should increase slowly over time, if they suddenly drop in size then there may be a problem worth contacting Support about.

Restore

Screen

To restore from a backup:

  1. Retrieve the LiveStream 5 backup archive containing the backup files you wish to restore.

  2. Decompress the archive so that you can access each SQL back up file.

  3. Choose the configuration backup file from using the corresponding choose file button and dialogue.

  4. (optional) Choose the reporting backup file from using the corresponding choose file button and dialogue.

ProTip: The majority of LiveStream 5's storage is consumed by the reporting history. Opting not to restore the reporting data will cut down restoration time significantly.

  5. With your file(s) selected click the Restore button.

  6. Wait while the restoration completes. If you are restoring a reporting backup file, this will take a long time.

Reporting Data Retention

The details of each web request each client makes is recorded in order to generate reports. As some organisations can generate over 1 million web requests per day, old data must eventually be deleted. You can choose how long reporting data is retained using these settings. Data older than the retention period will be deleted every week during scheduled maintenance.

Screen

In the Reporting Data tab simply select how much reporting data you would like LiveStream 5 to retain. The default is 1 year, but you may alternatively retain:

  • 1 month
  • 3 months
  • 6 months
  • 1 year
  • 2 years
  • 3 years

ProTip: Enable admin notifications so LiveStream 5 can notify you if the disk space is running low.
